Already by Rembrandt\u2019s time it had taken on its name, which translates as \u201clost expenses\u201d or, more colloquially, \u201cmoney pit.\u201d The site faced another setback when much of the castle was destroyed in a fire. After this damage\u2014and before its eventual repair\u2014Rembrandt entered the grounds of the castle and recorded its diminished state.
